Company lauded for its community support and investment in Oktibbeha County, including a new $23 million commercial data center and its suite of ultra-fast fiber-based Internet services

Starkville, Mississippi (February 3, 2017) – C Spire received the 2016 Industry of the Year award Thursday night from the economic development arm of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership for the Mississippi-based telecom and technology company’s continuing support and investment in Starkville and Oktibbeha County.

Jack Wallace, president of the eight-member Oktibbeha County Economic Development Authority, presented the award to C Spire during the Greater Starkville Development Partnership’s annual awards banquet, citing the company’s stellar business practices, community support and technology investment in the county.

Wallace and local government and business leaders praised C Spire for its support of economic development efforts in the county, including making Starkville one of the first cities in Mississippi to receive Gigabit speed Internet access, super HD TV and digital home phone service two years ago.

“As an organization responsible for encouraging businesses to locate or expand here, we appreciate C Spire’s vision, faith and trust with the investment of millions of dollars in infrastructure in our county,” Wallace said. “C Spire is a leader in growth, innovation, community involvement and technology leadership.”

Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman, who also serves on the OCEDA board with the mayors of two other cities in the county, told over 300 community leaders, government and business leaders at the event that C Spire’s investment is helping the region reap dividends now and in the future with continued growth and expansion.

“They’ve made a tremendous investment in this community,” Wiseman said. “C Spire is a great technology company and we appreciate the confidence they have shown in investing so heavily in our economic future.”

In addition to its suite of ultra-fast, fiber-based consumer Internet services, C Spire has opened a new $23 million world-class commercial data center in Starkville. Local officials, who provided tax incentives to support the project, said the facility is the largest private sector development in the region’s history.

Wallace also cited the company’s philanthropic and charitable efforts in the region, including education scholarship funds, corporate sponsorships and continuing support for numerous GSDP programs and activities, including the Committee of 100, the Blue Ribbon Resource Series and the Starkville Community Market.

C Spire is headquartered in Ridgeland, Mississippi and its wireless communications unit is the sixth largest in the U.S., the largest privately-owned operation and the oldest continuously owned and operated mobile provider in the nation.

“I’m pleased to accept this award on behalf of our owners and employees,” said Bryan Templeton, regional manager for C Spire. “As a company that gets its inspiration from our customers, we’re proud to support the growth and expansion of this region.”
